The Teladi have recently allied with the Paranid and Split as the newest member of the Profit Guild, a popular descision as Teladi space provides a direct and safe trade route between the two more advanced races. Rumours of Teladi Company ships disguised as Pirates targeting high-tech Paranid cargos are likely to be untrue simply because the Teladi would see no long term profit in angering the more advanced species.

Biology and Origins :
The Teladi are obviously of reptillian or amphibian origin and appear to be less evolved than many of the other species. The harsh environment of the Teladi homeworld led to a natural tendency in pre-historic Teladi towards greed. In a golden age of Teladi History the rules that came to be known as 'Company Law' was created to keep these instincts in check and allow the sustainable exploitation of their planet's resources. The social skills required to interpret this complex Company Law have caused the Telai brain to evolve far beyond the known limits of a reptile brain but their intellectual skills are still underdeveloped when compared to the older species.

Technology and Industry :
Teladi technology is basic, it's sciences in their infancy. It was more by luck than judgement that the Teladi managed to achieve a rocket powered flight to their tiny moon 'Surth Siss'. It was to be the crowning glory of their industrial age but became an embarrasing incident when the intrepid Teladi astronauts discovered an Argon media-base hidden on the dark side of their moon. They were outraged to find the Argon had been broadcasting the Teladi struggle for space to the civilised systems as a comedy show. To make amends for this insult the Argon aided the Teladi space effort greatly with limited gifts of technology and data. The Teladi economy is still centered around heavy industry and agriculture rather than high-tech equipment which the Teladi tend to import.

Character :
Although famously devious and greedy in moral and personal matters the Teladi can be trusted in all financial matters - a Teladi would rather die than break the code of honour governing business probity and risk the wrath of the Company's feared enforcement arm. They are timid in combat but will not abandon assets at any cost. The Teladi welcome any new species that can provide them with more profit or information. The embarassing origins of the Teladi space program (noted above) still leaves a nasty taste in the collective Teladi mouth and they work dilligently to increase the status of their species.
