KDE 3.x | ICE WM | Windows 98

I rarely find an off-the-shelf desktop theme I really like. I'm fussy about interfaces and can't help fiddling with things until they are just the way I like them. The screenshots (click a small desktop image) will show you how I like my desktop laid out.

Here are the themes I have created for my own use. Feel free to use, alter and distribute them - just give me a namecheck and a link to this site :-)

KDE 3.x Themes

Simply copy the .ktheme file to a safe place and use the KDE Control Center Theme Manager to install it.
nb. You may need to shift-click or right-click the download link to save the .ktheme file.

This is my day-to-day desktop theme. It matches my room's decor - the wallpaper is just a scan of my desk.

I use the KDE2 Default window decorations and set the default icons to semi-transparent grey. I like translucent konsole windows and menus.

The wallpaper came from someone else's theme - I can't remember whose (let me know). I just tweaked things to my liking.

I use this as my late night theme for those long, eye-straining coding sessions.

IceWM Themes

Simply copy the .tar.gz file to your icewm theme directory ( usually ~/.icewm/themes/ ) and do

  tar -xvf <filename>

Then restart ICE and the theme will appear in the themes menu.

I didn't like the default ICE themes so created this one from scratch. The background came from some open-source theme pack or other. The nicest feature of this theme are my nice bitmapped window titlebars.

Windows 98 Themes

You will need a program that can uncompress .zip files - get winzip from www.winzip.com.
See the installation instructions in the README files contained in the .zip file.

New Icons, cursors and loads of sound effects. Also contains my cool Southpark Win98 startup and shutdown screens. The background is a bit lame but you can find loads of Southpark backgrounds on the web.
