Find out what is currently causing the fifty billion neurons between my ears to bounce up and down and go 'yee-hah'.
This section of my site is dedicated to the music, movies, games, books and other things that I enjoy..
music.
|
Honest, intelligent music written and performed with real emotion is what gets my blood pumping. I'm not a great fan of contemparary mainstream music but love pretty much everything else. Punk, metal, blues, industrial, classical, indie, grunge, jazz, goth, rock. Basically I love anything with brains and balls.
I finally got around to uploading four songs from my old band's demo tape as mp3 files. I have put a bio and gallery in the projects section too.

movies.

I love movies but tend to ignore the hype. I wait for word-of-mouth recomendations and then get the worthwhile movies on DVD. For the price of a trip to the cinema I can have the movie forever and have a cigarette and a decent coffee while I watch it. I don't miss the important bits when I go to the loo either.
I'm not a fan of any specific genres, actors or directors. I just love well made movies with integrity, originality and intelligence.
To be honest there is not much coming soon that gets me excited.

games.
|
I'm quite fussy with regard to games. Ever since Elite I've loved non-linear games. The more freedom I have in a virtual world the happier I am. I see good games (as any other work of art) as a stimulus for the imagination, not a replacement for it. I've taken a break from the excellent first-person RPG Morrowind - which boasts one of the most immersive and convincing game worlds to date, got bored very quickly with the too-linear Icewind Dale and Judge Dredd and have been mostly playing Egosoft's excellent epic space combat / trading game "X2-The Threat".

books.
| Mostly I read technical manuals. Mostly. It sucks but it's part of being a techie. When I get the chance to read I like original, thought-provoking books both fiction and non-fiction. I also love graphic novels (comic-books to the layman). I am, for example, utterly hooked on Ennis & Dillon's Preacher series - original, shocking, funny and unapologeticly blasphemous - it is a thrilling ride. Intelligent, well crafted graphic novels like Preacher, Alan Moore's Watchmen or Spiegelman's Maus are on a par with some of the most celebrated written and visual 'mainstream' art.
