I recently discovered that I am to be made redundant from my job with the leading UK provider of IT solutions to the veterinary industry due to reprioritisation of company priorities.

As well as designing, developing and supporting LAMP (Linux/Apache/PHP&Perl/MySQL) products I provided network and systems administration (Unix and Linux) and 2nd-line support for the company and it's clients.

Well, my last update was 2 1/2 years ago - where does the time go?

In that post I said I was going to spend more time with my girlfriend and her (though I now think of her as our) daughter which is as good a reason as any to have neglected this site for so long.

The time was finally right a couple of weeks back and so I got down on one knee and proposed - we will be getting married in August of this year and I'm happy as a clam.

But I have been hella' busy recently.

I'm trying to spend more time with my girlfriend and her daughter which means being AFK a lot of the time.

I took this week off work and will be spending it getting the car fixed, reworking my LAN (retiring my old development server and moving everything else from Redhat to Gentoo Linux and (at last) making the move from 2.4 kernels to 2.6). I'll be spending what's left of December's wages on christmas presents and it's still only November.

Well, he had a good run but my wee hamster friend finally got too old and too sick and the only fair thing to do was let him go peacefully.

It's funny how you we can get so attached to such a small thing but we do. I'll miss him.
