Recent History
| May 2003 - Present | Employed
as a Development Engineer. |
|
I am currently working for a small, dynamic UK company who develop and produce practice management solutions for the veterinary profession. My position involves research and development of new products and technologies as well as general systems administration, infrastucture planning, information management and software engineering. I am primarily working with Linux, SCO OpenServer and Windows systems and developing using shell scripts, perl, php and MySQL. |
| Jul 2002 - May 2003 | Working as Freelance IT Consultant / Training. |
| Jan 2002 - Jul 2002 | Employed by Internet Business Services Ltd as a Development Engineer. |
|
IBS (www.ibs.co.uk) developed and produced unique Linux based Internet connectivity and management systems
tailored for SMEs, educational establishments and business centres.
Heavily involved in all technical aspects of the company my duties included administration of
Win98/Linux LAN/WAN infrastructure as well as product development, construction, testing and
on-site installation, user training and technical support.
Unfortunately the company was forced to downsize in July and I was made redundant.
The company ceased trading six months later.
|
| Aug 2001 - Jan 2002 | Working as Freelance IT Consultant / Training. |
| Jan 2001 - Aug 2001 | Employed by Electronic Commerce One as an Assistant Systems Administrator. Promoted to Infrastructure Manager in March 2001. | |
A highly respected e-commerce consultancy, EC1 provided a full range of services from investment
sourcing to full implementation of e-commerce projects.
Although primarily responsible for the company's LAN/WAN infrastructure (Win95/98/NT/2K, Linux,
Solaris, MacOS) I was also heavily involved in our client's e-commerce projects at both a development
and project management level. From mail, web and DNS server management
for 100+ client companies to development of major e-commerce projects this position offered a vast array
of challenges and opportunities to expand my skills base.
Due to a major client defaulting on payments the company went into liquidation in August 2001.
|
| Aug 1998 - Jan 2001 | Self Employed Web Developer. | |
My company, Squid Webdesign, provided strategic planning and implementation of a solid web presence for SMEs.
Operating as a sole trader I ran my web development agency from home. I managed the sales, marketing,
promotion and administration tasks for the company as well as planning, design, development, implementation,
administration and promotion of client's web sites. I also provided support services such as e-mail solutions,
domain name management and infrastructure planning and implementation. Sadly my sales skills were not at the same level as my technical skills and I was forced to leave self-employment. |
